THE BEST NEW AUSTRALIAN WRITERS SHORT STORY COMPETITION The Writers' Resource Centre's biannual short story competition is free to enter, with prize winners and commended stories published in a printed anthology. September 2008 Word length: 2500 words maximum Closing date: 30 September 2008 Judge: To be announced May 2009 Word length: 2500 words maximum Closing date: 31 May 2009 Judge: To be announced RULES - Entries must be in English and typewritten - Entries must be original, and previously unpublished. - Entries will not be returned. Please keep a copy of your story. - Entrants must be based permanently in the country of Australia. - Entry is free but as a condition of entry, entrants MUST be subscribed to the Writers' Resource Centre ezine, Writers' World. Subscribe here. - Worldwide copyright of each entry remains with the author, but the author agrees as a condition of entry that the Writers' Resource Centre and Smink Works Books will have the unrestricted right to publish winning and highly recommended stories in an anthology (in any format, including print, audio and digital). - The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. - Entry indicates acceptance of all the rules. Entries that fail to comply with these entry requirements will be disqualified. - Winners will be notified in writing by October 31 (September competition) and June 30 (May competition) - The entry should be submitted via email to writers [at] writersworld [dot] com. Please do not post entries. - The email should contain two Word-format documents 1. A personal details document containing NAME, RESIDENTIAL/POSTAL ADDRESS, EMAIL ADDRESS, TELEPHONE NUMBER, TITLE OF SHORT STORY, AND THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT: "I agree as a condition of entry that the Writers' Resource Centre and Smink Works Books will have the unrestricted right to publish my story in an anthology in any format, including print, audio and digital." 2. The short story document, which should contain ONLY the short story title and the story. Please DO NOT include your name on your story. - The story should not be more than 2500 words
