The first Bayside Literary Festival in Mordialloc on May 24-25 will expose all the scandals of the Melbourne suburb. The Mordialloc Writers' Group will launch the book Scandalous Bayside as part of the festival. The new collection of stories and poems by Mordialloc Writers' Group members invites the reader into the fictional world of 20 local writers and their imaginative as well as factual interpretation of what has been or is scandalous about living in the coastal area. There are stories of political corruption, dispossession, family relationships, growing up, and facing death. These stories explore and reflect the vibrancy of living bayside and the social fabric that makes up the community. The literary festival will also include writing workshops. The From Memories to Manuscript workshop is perfect for people keen to write their life story or family history, and the Creative Writing and Puppet Workshop will inspire children from Prep to Year 8 to make a puppet from recycled and other materials and write an acrostic poem or short story or monologue. Local Councillor Topsy Petchey will launch Scandalous Bayside on Sunday May 25 at 2.00 pm in the Mordialloc Neighbourhood House, 457 Main Street, Mordialloc. The launch is open to everyone. Refreshments provided and copies of the book are available for $12.50 each. From Memories to Manuscript Workshop
